Abstract
The purpose of this study was to get basic informations about pit and fissure sealing for expanding pit and fissure sealant application in Korea. The actual state of pit and fissure sealant application among middle school students in Kwacheonr city had been evaluated. Dental survey had been done for 1,523 middle school students in Kwacheon city. The criteria and recording instructions utilized during survey were designed to meet the purpose of this study, and basically adhered closely to the standards set by the World Health Organization´s criteria.
The obtained results were as follows
1. The percentages of person with pit and fissure sealant was 15.2% among middle school students in Kwacheon city.
2. The percentages of the pit and fissure sealant on the maxillary first molar was the highest of all permanent tooth.
3. There was statistically significant difference in DMFS scores on the pits and
fissures among the sealant groups and the non-sealant groups(p<0.01).
4. There was no difference in DMFS scores on the smooth surfaces among the
sealant groups and the non-sealant groups(p>0.05).
